EYSO’s Youth Symphony has spent the last week of concert preparations firmly focused on monumental repertoire by Mahler, Martinu, and Sibelius — the Finnish composer’s famed violin concerto for which they will be joined by acclaimed violinist Rachel Barton Pine. Young Artists Concerto Competition Winners announced!

Each autumn, EYSO invites Philharmonia and Youth Symphony students to audition for the prestigious opportunity to perform a concerto with their orchestra.  Past winners have performed masterworks by Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Max Bruch, Dmitri Kabalevsky, and Edouard Lalo, to name just a few. On Saturday, October 17, students auditioned for a panel of expert adjudicators composed of music educators and teaching artists from throughout Chicago, and three exceptional winners were announced the following day.
