Directed by nationally recognized leaders in music education, EYSO’s ensembles provide opportunities for students from fourth grade through college to develop their musical and creative skills in a close-knit and collaborative community of peers. With opportunities to grow from beginner to advanced players, students challenge each other to be their best, while ensemble directors nurture curiosity, encourage exploration, and foster leadership from every member.

Performance Opportunities At Every Level
EYSO ensembles perform both masterworks of the classical repertoire and new contemporary repertoire, challenging and inspiring their members to ever-higher levels of creativity, musicianship, and collaboration. Brass Choir and Flute Choir provide opportunities each week for musicians of varying levels of experience to collaborate and learn from one another. Percussion Ensembles offer individual attention to percussionists of all skill levels, and the Chamber Music Institute gives young musicians the chance to lead, learn, and collaborate in a small-ensemble environment.

Explore Our Ensembles

Youth Symphony

Youth Symphony, EYSO’s flagship ensemble, unites advanced high school and college musicians for top-tier repertoire, coaching, and performances. 

 

Philharmonia

Philharmonia is a full orchestra for advanced middle and high school musicians, offering challenging music and performance opportunities.

Sinfonia

Sinfonia is an ensemble for intermediate middle and high school musicians, emphasizing technical growth, ensemble skills, and musicianship.

 

Prelude

Prelude Orchestra is for early-intermediate string players in grades 5–9, building technique and independence through diverse repertoire.

Primo & Primo Intermezzo

Primo is EYSO’s entry-level string ensemble for grades 4–8, building fundamentals. Primo Intermezzo (invite-only) plays more advanced music.

Chamber Music

EYSO’s Chamber Music Institute open to all students whether they are in a large ensemble or not, offer small ensembles, weekly coaching, and performances.

Flute Choir

Flute Choir brings together flutists from Sinfonia, Philharmonia, and beyond to explore tone, technique, and ensemble playing with specialized repertoire.

Brass Choir

Brass Choir is for brass players in Youth Symphony, Philharmonia, and Sinfonia, focusing on technique, collaboration, and repertoire.

Percussion Ensembles

Percussion Ensembles provide technique, repertoire, coaching, and rehearsals for percussionists of all levels to build confidence and orchestral skills.

Starter Strings

Starter Strings is a tuition-free program bringing violin and viola lessons to local fourth graders. Since 2021, it has served hundreds of students, removing barriers like cost and access, and expanded to Dundee Highlands in 2025.

Summer Chamber Music Camp is a week-long immersive program where students  grow through collaboration, challenge, and a shared love of chamber music, working in small ensembles with expert coaches and guest artists.
