Earn College Credit At

Elgin Community College

At the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestras, an In-Residence Ensemble at Elgin Community College, students have the unique opportunity to earn college credit while playing in a world-class youth orchestra. Students age 16 and older playing in Sinfonia, Philharmonia, or Youth Symphony are eligible to receive credit. More than 1,100 colleges and universities nationwide have accepted transfer credits from ECC. Learn more below about earning and transferring credits from EYSO.

Eligibility Requirements

All EYSO students regardless of age and ensemble are enrolled by default as non-credit students at Elgin Community College. To earn college credit for participation in EYSO, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be 16 years of age of older
  • Play in Sinfonia, Philharmonia, or Youth Symphony for the full semester
  • Complete an online enrollment application through ECC

There is no additional cost to receive college course credit through ECC. Students receive 1.0 credit hour per semester, and they may request transcripts for transfer purposes through the ECC Registrar's office.

Credit Transfer

Elgin Community College has had transfer credits accepted by more than 1,100 colleges and universities, and it is a member of the Illinois Articulation Initiative, a coalition of 100 Illinois colleges and universities.
