Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra Opens 47th Season with Blueprints Concert

(Elgin, Illinois, October 2022) — On Sunday, November 13, 2022, the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra (EYSO) returns to the stage of the Blizzard Theatre at Elgin Community College to open their 47th concert season. Tickets for all DESIGN season concerts are now available for purchase at the Elgin Community College Box Office by concert title. The upcoming concert, entitled Blueprints, is the first of four concerts in the DESIGN series that examines the power of design: that small details have an outsized impact on how we move through the world. EYSO, with members from approximately 70 communities, is one of Chicagoland’s oldest and most respected youth orchestras.

“In preparing for Blueprints, our student musicians explore how music is built by investigating musical inspiration, design, and construction,” said Artistic Director Matthew Sheppard. “What do the blueprints reveal in the formal structures of Bach fugues, the intimate musical portraits of Elgar’s Enigma Variations, and the modern geometric structures and chance music adventures of 21st -century composers? We encourage you to listen and explore how composers and artists employ principles of thoughtful design and construction to create meaning.”

Concerts will occur at 2:00, 4:30, and 7:00 p.m., with each featuring performances by different ensembles.

2:00 p.m.—Prelude, Sinfonia, Flute Choir, Sinfonia/Philharmonia Percussion Ensemble

4:30 p.m. —Brass Choir, Philharmonia, Sinfonia/Philharmonia Percussion Ensemble

7:00 p.m. —Youth Symphony, Youth Symphony Percussion Ensemble

In-person tickets ($25 adults, $20 seniors, $14 students, before fees) are now available through the ECC Arts Center Box Office. Livestream tickets ($27 including fees) will be  sold at EYSO.org.
