Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Chamber Music Institute to Perform Free and Accessible Concert

(Elgin, Illinois, October 2022) —  On Sunday, November 6, the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra (EYSO) will host an afternoon of performances by the Chamber Music Institute (CMI) in Spartan Auditorium at Elgin Community College.  For those new to classical music, these short, engaging chamber music performances occurring at 12:45, 2:00, and 4:30 p.m. are a perfect introduction. The November Chamber Music Institute concerts highlight the work of 93 students in 25 small ensembles, including EYSO’s four Honors Chamber Ensembles.

In addition to their primary large ensemble, EYSO students have the option of participating in a chamber music ensemble. Typically, about one-third of students enroll in this exceptional supplementary program, taking part in an experience that sharpens vital listening skills and provides further invaluable musicianship training.

This concert follows eight weeks of coaching which allows students to develop the skills to rehearse and perform challenging repertoire without a conductor, find their own musical voice, and learn how to share it in a small group setting. In addition to specialized coaching, CMI students also have the opportunity to perform at community events and concerts in the area, furthering their performance experience.

“Top chamber music coaches in the region work with these students to explore music and learn how to collaborate as a team,” says Roslyn Green, CMI Director. “These concerts are an important landmark in the year, capping their first semester of study. Join us again on April 2 for the final CMI concert of the season!”

These concerts are free of charge and open to the public, and will also be livestreamed for free on EYSO’s YouTube channel.

EYSO hosts its first full concert of the season, Blueprints, on Sunday, November 13 with performances at 2, 4:30 and 7 pm. More information and tickets for purchase are available at EYSO.org/concert.

The mission of EYSO is to create a community of young musicians, enriching their lives and the lives of their families, schools, communities, and beyond, through the study and performance of excellent music. For more information, visit www.eyso.org or call 847.841.7700.
