2024 Chicago Viola Festival | Midwest Young Artists Conservatory

The 2024 Chicago Viola Festival will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024.
The Chicago Viola Festival is an all day experience put on, for, and by Chicago area violists of all ages, experience levels, and backgrounds! Participants will have the opportunity to play in master classes, perform in technique classes, play in a viola ensemble, try out instruments from local vendors, and celebrate all things viola! Fulton Summer Music Academy

FSMA 2024 will take place from June 30 - July 26, 2024, and will be held on the campus of Elmhurst University in Chicago, IL.
FSMA taught 27 students from 5 different countries and had an incredible line-up of masterclass guests, including pianist Andrew Armstrong, cellist Zlatomir Fung, violinists Alena Baeva and Amy Schwartz Moretti, and violist Stephen Wyrczynski. Our faculty recital of the Schumann Piano Quintet with Oberlin Conservatory Professor of Piano and FSMA piano faculty, Peter Takács, was unforgettable.

FSMA 2024 will take place from June 30 - July 26, 2024, and will be held on the campus of Elmhurst University in Chicago, IL. Guest masterclass clinicians include a violinist in a class of his own, James Ehnes, world-renowned pianist, Jeremy Denk, international viola soloist, Kim Kashkashian, and Australian baroque violin legend, Stanley Ritchie. The four-week program will have individual lessons, chamber music, string orchestra, guest masterclasses, chorus, and more.

Applications for FSMA 2024 are open now for violin, viola, cello, and piano students with the priority deadline on February 15, 2024. Merit and need-based scholarships are available as well. Call for Bassists - Richard Davis Foundation for Young Bassists

Young Bassists age 3-18 are invited to Madison, WI for a full weekend of musical growth and discovery. All bassists, beginner to advanced, age 3-18 are welcome.

Call for Musicians - Downtown Neighborhood Association

Downtown Neighborhood Association is looking for musicians to perform for an hour at downtown Elgin restaurants on Valentine's Day (February 14) or the bookend weekends surrounding the 14th. Peoria Symphony Guild Young Artist Competition 2024

The Peoria Symphony Guild is pleased to announce our 66th Annual Concerto/Aria Competition for Exceptionally Talented High School and Junior High Musicians. We are excited to expand our competition to schools and aspiring young artists within a 350-mile radius of Peoria, Illinois. Concerto/Aria categories are piano, voice, brass, woodwind, strings, and percussion. Our mission is to give young artists real-world experiences, encourage them to continue their musicianship, and motivate them to use their talents to seek a possible musical career. The competition winners will receive monetary awards of $1000 for 1st Place, $750 for 2nd Place, and $500 for 3rd Place, and will be showcased and required to perform at the Peoria Symphony Guild’s Spring Luncheon on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 11:00 AM in Peoria, IL. The 1st Place winner will additionally have the honor to perform professionally with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra at the Peoria Symphony Guild’s Annual Student Concert on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 10:00 AM and 11:45 AM at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria, IL. All students must be sure these dates are cleared on their calendars, before entering. This is a great opportunity for your talented students to gain audition experience, and possibly play with a professional orchestra! Please share the attached flyer with your talented students or post it on your band, orchestra, and chorus bulletin boards. New York Youth Symphony's Young Composer Competition

Application Requirements
To qualify for the 2024-25 Season, First Music Commission applicants must be under the age of 30 on December 31, 2023 and be able to provide the following materials: 1. A five-minute audio excerpt of an original composition (your submission) or MIDI as well as a full recording of the same original composition or MIDI 2. PDF version of the score of the same original composition 3. Proof of US Citizenship or legal permanent residency (birth certificate, passport, or green card) 4. DePaul CMD National Concerto Competition for Young Performers

Registration is open
This competition is open to piano, violin, viola, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, and saxophone for students in 12th grade or younger. Winners will perform a movement of a concerto with the Oistrakh Symphony of Chicago, and all participants will be provided with written performance evaluations from our outstanding judges. This year, the final performance will feature a rehearsal/recording session with the Oistrakh Symphony. Registration closes on Sunday, December 3 at midnight. What is Chords for Humanity?
Chords for Humanity is a student-founded organization collecting donations of music supplies to donate to the Rachel Barton-Pine Foundation in partnership with BLUME-Haiti. Donations can be used items that are still in good shape (old strings, rosin, shoulder/chin rests, valve/rotor oil, sheet music, and more!). For the full list of items, see Donation Guidelines. Music Institute of Chicago Academy Extra-Curricular Music Program

Begins in September
Looking for some intensive extra curricular music studies during the school year? The Music Institute of Chicago Academy is hosting an all day Saturday program for serious music students ages 13-18 during the academic year held at the Lake Forest College campus. Students do not have to take lessons with Music Institute faculty in order to be accepted and can still study with their current teacher. Plus, it doesn't interfere with EYSO rehearsals!
