Young Artists Concerto Competition Winners announced!

Each autumn, EYSO invites Philharmonia and Youth Symphony students to audition for the prestigious opportunity to perform a concerto with their orchestra.  Past winners have performed masterworks by Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Max Bruch, Dmitri Kabalevsky, and Edouard Lalo, to name just a few.

On Saturday, October 17, students auditioned for a panel of expert adjudicators composed of music educators and teaching artists from throughout Chicago, and three exceptional winners were announced the following day.

From the Philharmonia orchestra, cellist Trudie Childs and violinist Lauren Lee were awarded performances in the spring.  Trude will play Edouard Lalo’s cello concerto in March, and Lauren will play Bach’s violin concerto in A-minor in May.  An honorable mention was given to Ayumu Seiya, who auditioned with the Kabalevsky violin concerto.

From the Youth Symphony, the adjudicators chose percussionist Jack Reynertson to perform Alan Hovhaness’s Fantasy on Japanese Woodprints for marimba.  Honorable mentions were given to Brad Geneser, who played the Gregson Tuba Concerto, and violinist Amelia Benich, playing Beethoven’s violin concerto.

Congratulations to all who auditioned, and we are looking forward to our spring performances!
