Taking Note – August 2022

August 2022

July 2022 marked our fourth annual Summer Chamber Music Camp (SCMC). SCMC is a weeklong camp focused on chamber music, featuring in-residence ensemble, KAIA string quartet, coaches Tim Archibold, Clara Takarabe, and a panel of guest speakers. Established in 2019, SCMC is a great way to connect with local music students—regardless of EYSO membership.

Camp took place July 25 – July 29 at Elgin Academy (near downtown Elgin). Throughout the week, 40+ students participated in a variety of exploratory classes, including Composition, Listening, Movement, and Improv Theatre. With the spacious campus and beautiful weather, students had the chance to play team-building games, take brain breaks, and practice outside. The camp concluded with two free concerts (livestreamed) at Sears Gallery, showcasing the excellent work the students accomplished throughout the week.

Thank you to all who made Summer Chamber Music Camp 2022 possible!
