Each season, Fall Camp is a powerful and memorable experience. Two things shape most students’ feelings about a youth orchestra: the quality of the music-making and how they feel about “fitting in” with the group. A retreat, like Fall Camp, is the best way to “jump-start” both of these things. It is amazing how friendships are forged at Fall Camp, creating wonderful bonds that make a large, diverse orchestra feel smaller and friendlier. Our Sunday night rehearsals give us relatively little time together and Fall Camp gives us some concentrated work time to focus on concert repertoire. Mixed in the rehearsals are group-building games and activities, lots of laughter, conversation and a few other surprises.
